IELTS Speaking Test: Part 1 (Introduction & Interview)

Examiner: Good morning/afternoon. My name is [Examiner’s Name]. Can you tell me your full name, please?

Candidate: Good morning/afternoon. My name is [Candidate’s Full Name].

Examiner: Can I see your ID, please?

Candidate: Sure, here it is.

Examiner: Thank you. Now, let’s talk about your daily routine. Do you have a routine that you follow every day?

Candidate: Yes, I do. I usually start my day by waking up early around 6 AM. I like to spend some time exercising before I have breakfast. Then, I head off to work or school, depending on the day. In the evening, I try to relax by reading a book or watching a movie.

Examiner: Do you think it’s important to have a daily routine?

Candidate: Yes, I think having a routine helps me stay organized and productive. It also gives structure to my day, so I can manage my time more effectively.

Examiner: What part of your day do you enjoy the most?

Candidate: I enjoy the early mornings the most because it’s quiet, and I can take some time for myself. Whether it’s reading the news, drinking coffee, or doing yoga, it sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.

IELTS Speaking Test: Part 2 (Cue Card)

Examiner: Now, I’m going to give you a topic, and I’d like you to talk about it for 1 to 2 minutes. You will have 1 minute to prepare your answer. Here’s your paper and a pencil to make notes if you wish.

Examiner hands the candidate a cue card.

Cue Card:

Describe a time when you helped someone. You should say:

  • Who you helped
  • Why they needed help
  • How you helped them
  • And explain how you felt after helping them.

Candidate’s Answer:

One time I helped someone was when I assisted my neighbor, an elderly woman, who needed help with her groceries. She had recently had surgery and wasn’t able to carry heavy bags. I happened to see her struggling outside the supermarket, and I offered to help carry her groceries back to her house, which was just a few blocks away.

She needed help because she had just returned from the hospital and didn’t have any family living nearby to assist her. I helped her by not only carrying the groceries but also putting them away for her in her kitchen.

Afterwards, I felt really happy that I could make her day a little easier. It’s nice to help others, especially when they are going through a difficult time. It also made me reflect on how important it is to build a sense of community and offer support whenever possible.

IELTS Speaking Test: Part 3 (Discussion)

Examiner: Let’s talk more generally about helping others. Do you think people nowadays are more willing to help others compared to the past?

Candidate: I believe people are still willing to help others, but the way we help has changed. In the past, help was more direct and face-to-face, like neighbors helping each other. Today, with technology, people can help through online platforms, like donating to causes or offering advice in online communities. But I think the willingness is still there.

Examiner: What are some ways people can help others in their community?

Candidate: People can help in many ways. For example, volunteering at local charities, helping out at food banks, or even offering to help elderly neighbors with household tasks. Small gestures, like picking up litter in public spaces or organizing community events, can also make a big difference.

Examiner: Do you think children should be taught to help others? Why or why not?

Candidate: Absolutely, I think it’s important for children to learn the value of helping others from a young age. It teaches them empathy, responsibility, and the importance of contributing to society. When children see the positive impact of their actions, it encourages them to continue helping others as they grow older.
